Whenuapai School Gala 2010
Whenuapai School Gala UpdateAugust 2010
Here we go!
By now you’ll know all about our plans for a mega gala and jumble sale. This is a major fundraising drive for the Board of Trustees and we’re grateful for all the support we’ve had so far – and looking forward to HEAPS more over the next few months. So, what do you need to know?
The plan
It’s been a while since we had a gala at Whenuapai so we thought, ‘Let’s take it back to the future’. Sure, it’s about raising some much-needed money for the school, but it’s also a great opportunity to bring the whole community together for some good, old-fashioned fun. Yep, that means you’ll find a whole heap of those stalls you remember from your own childhood, and a day of entertainment.
School Day
One important thing to remember is that the Gala has officially been designated a school day. That means all pupils are expected to attend, just as they would on any other school day. In exchange, the school will be closed on the following Monday, November 22.
What’s it for?
Good question. We’d like to hear answers from you. We want to contribute the funds from the gala towards a specific target, but we’d like to hear feedback from you as to what that goal should be. How about ICT, Activboards, or a revamp of the astro-turf? Anything else? Tell us what you think via email to the school or through the gala suggestion box in the office. (Other gala-related ideas welcome too!)
We want YOU!
Each class has been given responsibility for a particular stall. If you haven’t already, then, you can expect to hear from your children’s teachers asking for help. It might be that you can provide some time or goods beforehand, it might be that you can help out on the day. Each stall requires different things – but please remember that many hands make light work. If everyone helps out a little bit, it will be so much easier.
Donations
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be asking for your help in supplying some donations – you’ll have already seen the request to please start setting aside any jumble sale goods. On the back of this notice, you’ll find a list of things that we’ll be looking for in the future – some things (like old pieces of crockery for the plate smashing stall) won’t cost you a cent. Again, it’s a matter of a little bit from everyone helping. Thank you!!!

Jumble SaleThe PTA will be running a Jumble Sale at the School Gala. Please start to have a look around home and put things aside that you would be willing to donate. Closer to the time we will advertise drop off details. If you are unable to hold onto things until later in the year, please contact Esther 416 1226 or email esther.young@xtra.co.nz.
School Gala Help Required
Preparations for the Whenuapai School Gala are roaring along (the big day is November 20). As part of our planning for the big day we are thinking ahead to what we'll need to do in the way of advertising and marketing. Is there anybody within the School Community involved with a printing business who we could talk to about brochures, posters, billboards etc? Any ideas please contact either Mr Spanhake or fundraising committee member Eugene Bingham on Eugene.bingham@gmail.com.
Keep 20 November 2010 Aside to Come Along to the Whenuapai School Gala!
This year heralds the return of the Whenuapai School Gala. It has been many years since a Gala was held and we're already excited as the 2010 Gala looms closer. Keep an eye on this page for regular Gala updates and requests for donations.
