Facilities

Class Rooms

The school opened with just three classrooms (original structure now rooms 8  -  10) and has grown to over twenty fully equipped rooms. Some of these are now special purpose rooms (see below). Beginning in 2008, a roll out of Interactive Whiteboards and Sound Systems for all classrooms will begin.

Library

Whenuapai School Library is now situated behind the astro turf court. It is open from 8:30am until 3:00pm daily.

Each class is scheduled to visit the library once each week and books are issued for a one week period. Team 4 and 5 children are allowed to borrow one picture book each week. Teams 3 and 2 may borrow 2 books, one of which must be fiction. Team 1 students are allowed 3 books, however, if children are good at returning books on time and are avid readers they may be allowed more.

We have a fantastic range of both fiction and non fiction material, which are added to on a regular basis. Children are able to use the library at lunchtimes to read or research, either subjects that are of interest to them or to aid their homework. Student librarians are on hand at lunchtimes to assist wherever necessary.

Students whose books become overdue will receive an overdue notice, if the book is still not returned parents and caregivers will be issued with a letter requesting their help in the recovery of the book or for payment to replace it.

Our school library manager is Sue Burr. She can be contacted at sueb@whenuapai.school.nz  and will be only too pleased to answer any queries you may have.

ICT Suite

Located in the former dental clinic, the ICT suite plays a vital role in our school. With 16 computers, it allows for whole class teaching of ICT skills  with our specialist ICT teacher. Classes are scheduled for regular sessions in the ICT suite each Term, and computer club is held in the suite every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime.

Courts

The school has two large marked hard surface areas which serve as free play areas, ball courts and meeting grounds. The largest contains a full sized netball court, the other a basket court with nets.

The school also has a fully fenced artificial grass area.

hall

The hall is an important part of our school, from school discos to assemblies, to graduation and gymnastics, school productions to dancing. The hall has state of the art lighting and sound equipment that student AV monitors are trained to use.

The hall can be hired for private use outside of school hours: please enquire at the school office for information and hire conditions.

Play Structures

Whenuapai School offers a wealth of playground opportunities. Two purpose built play grounds, one for the junior school and another for the seniors. A very popular morning tea and lunchtime activity, both playgrounds have a variety of fun and challenging tasks.
